In an attempt to imitate the in Sweden very rare but equally popular dark walnut tree, some 18th century carpenters became experts in working with alder root. Until this day items of alder root are sought after not only for their stunning colour but mainly for the pattern that makes every object unique and full of life. Alder root veneer was mainly used for tabletops, cabinets and boxes like this one.
