A pair of antique, Early 20th Century, silver and gold two-stone old European diamond dormeuse earrings. This earring style has become so popular lately that it’s becoming harder to find a good pair and wearing these we know why!
Two large old european cut diamonds, approx. 1.32ct (L,si2) and 1.22ct (M, P1), anchor the base of the double drop earrings, a very pleasant size on the lobes. The smaller stones are approx. 0.1ct each making the total diamond weight approx.. 2.74ct. Not too austentatious but still with a clear presence. The stones have a slight tint, a hint of warmth.
The form of earrings used here is also called “dormeuse”. Dormeuses’ are small round earrings usually with leverbacks, which are worn just below the earlobe and can thus be worn during naps or even at night. The French word for sleep is “dormir”, to sleep.
A pretty and very useful pair of diamond earrings, made circa 1910.
One of the hinges is slightly loose. Not affecting security when worn.
