A timeless Bulgari jewel in 18 karat twisted yellow gold topped with cabochon sapphire, emerald and diamonds. Made in Italy, circa 1970 The bangle is composed of a 3.6 millimeters twisted 18 karat gold rope in the torque design. To each end of the torque bangle is a beautiful cabochon stone, one end boasts an emerald the other a sapphire. They are both highlighted by baguette cut diamonds which adds a fabulous spark to the design.
Cabochons are extensively and recurringly used by Bulgari adding volume or “cupola” effect. Never spiky claws but rounded and smooth collets which enhance the overall rounded shape of the design. The cupola effect is often, as in this case, emphasized by the structure around the dome. At Bulgari volume in a jewel is always combined with substantial weight. Fine and well constructed ornaments should never be too flimsy or too light nor should the be too heavy and awkward. Bulgari strives and manages to create the ideal weight in every jewel.
